Recently, a few faulty air source heat pump installations in New Rochelle and Mount Vernon can present problems for homeowners. While heat pumps are clean heating and cooling alternatives for buildings that are cheaper to use than oil, gas, and resistance electricity, at least one company, has been installing multiple outdoor units on single-family homes. This is not how heat pumps are to be installed!
A single-family home only requires one outdoor unit installed in the back of the house close to the ground. If you have multiple units hanging off your house, then you may have been a victim.
Multiple outdoor units will dramatically increase your electric bill. It takes significant energy to run multiple outdoor units.
There is a real fear that these heat pumps can pose a fire hazard for residents.
Homes lose their aesthetic appeal and subsequent value.
Proper heat pump installation requires insulation, updated electrical panels if you have been using oil or gas, and correct sizing of the system to ensure that it not only adequately heat/cool your space but that it is not too large, thereby using too much energy. There are heat pump operators who are not doing energy audits to right-size the heat pump for your specific need and are not installing these units correctly.
Con Edison and other officials are investigating one company for financial abuse. Adopt Clean Energy is working closely with Con Edison and State, county, and local officials to resolve this issue. As soon as more information is available, we will publicize it in this newsletter.
