CHOOSING A HEAT PUMP CONTRACTOR

Thank you for contacting Adopt Clean Energy to get information about heat contractors.  Adopt Clean Energy does not charge a fee or commission for information about heat pumps or referrals to professional contractors.  We are pleased to help you navigate the heat pump installation process by helping you choose a contractor/installer.

First, let us tell you about the Adopt Clean Energy Preferred Contractors/Installers List

·      Our contractors/installers abide by your community's rules and regulations.

·      Our contractors/installers are responsive to clients.

·      We choose contractors/installers with a history of doing good work.

·      Our contractors/installers are on a preferred list that allows the fast-tracking of building permit request for your heat pump installation.

·      Adopt Clean Energy will intervene with our contractors/installers on your behalf.

You may choose to use any contractor/installer, but remember that Adopt Clean Energy cannot intervene on your behalf if problems arise with an installer, not on the Adopt Clean Energy Preferred Contractor/Installer List.  If you have a contractor/installer you would like to place on our preferred list, then please send their information to info@adoptcleanenergy.earth.

Please follow the steps below for a trouble-free heat pump experience.

PHASE #1 - HOME ENERGY ASSESSMENT/AUDIT

This is the first step in your heat pump journey.  It establishes a baseline assessment of your home's air leaks and its ability to accommodate ground source and air source heat pump installation.

PHASE #2 - HEAT PUMP CONSULTATION

During this phase, you will consult with the heat pump contractors to determine the heat pump selection, price, and process.  Please ask the contractors about the heat pump financing they offer and compare it to the financing options Adopt Clean Energy will send you once you sign up.  Understanding all costs and financing terms is essential before signing contracts with installers.

Adopt Clean Energy recommends that you interview more than one installer before selecting.  Please provide your energy audit report to the contractors you interview.

Please ask your heat pump contractors/installers about securing building permits from your local Building Department.  If your selected heat pump contractor/installer tells you the job will not need a building permit, contact Adopt Clean Energy at 914.664.6356, and we will reach out to the contractor on your behalf.  Adopt Clean Energy will take action, including removing the contractor from our preferred contractor list.

PHASE #3 INSTALLATION

You will provide feedback about the installer's responsiveness, timeliness, cleanliness, protection of your property, helpfulness with completing installer sections for financing, instructing residents how to use the appliance, and adhering to the contract.

PHASE #3A INSULATION

Insulation is one of the most cost-effective ways to save energy.  A properly insulated home will ensure that power is not wasted.

PHASE #3B ELECTRICAL UPGRADE

In some cases, your electrical panel needs to be upgraded to accommodate your new heat pump's electrical usage.  Do not miss this very critical safety step.

PHASE #3C HEAT PUMP

Do not let any heat pump installer begin heat pump work on your property without a building permit

PHASE #4 POST INSTALLATION

Before the heat pump contractor leaves your property, make sure that they do the following:

·      Make sure your heat pump is working.

·      Inspect the area(s) where work was done with you.

·      Show you how to use the heat pump.

·      Show you how to troubleshoot problems with the heat pump.

·      Tell you when and how to contact the contractor if a problem arises or the heat pump is not working.  Get the name and telephone number of the person you may contact.

·      Tell you when and how to schedule a maintenance check.

·      Tell you the cost of the maintenance check.

·      Give the heat pump appliance paperwork, including the make and model information.

·      Give you a copy of the warranty and thoroughly explain it.

OPTIONAL CLEAN ENERGY SERVICES

Heat pumps run on electricity.  Adding solar panels to your home may dramatically reduce your electrical load.  Adopt Clean Energy can provide you with the name(s) of solar contractors on our preferred list.  Adopt Clean Energy will inform you as another clean energy technology becomes available and proves reliable.
